Parking & access
I set up on the nearest flat ground — street, turnout or top of the drive — and walk the bike. Tell me about stairs in advance and I'll plan for it.
Getting an e-bike serviced in Laguna Beach
Laguna Beach is the clearest case for mobile service in Orange County. The streets are narrow, the driveways are steep, parking is scarce, and plenty of homes have a staircase between the garage and the road. Getting a 60-pound e-bike from a hillside house to a shop is a two-person job.
The riding is demanding too. Park Avenue and the climb to Top of the World are steep enough to push hub motors into thermal cutback, and the descents are hard on brakes that haven't been bled. On these hills e-bike ownership isn't a convenience — it's often the reason people can ride at all, and a bike with a dead battery can't get home.
Laguna has its own e-bike ordinance, in effect since May 8, 2025, that caps e-bike speeds at 25 mph in permitted areas and requires riding with traffic and yielding to pedestrians. Crystal Cove's roads and trails are Class 1 only, and the unpaved wilderness trails above town are closed to e-bikes altogether.
I'll work from whatever flat ground is nearest — the street, a turnout or the top of the drive — and walk the bike up or down. That's normal here and it's built into the quote.

FAQ
Questions from Laguna Beach
Is there a trip fee for mobile e-bike repair in Laguna Beach?
Laguna Beach is in Zone 2. The trip fee is $35, and it is credited in full toward any service over $150, so most repairs end up with no trip charge at all. Three or more bikes at one address qualify for the per-bike rate.
Which Laguna Beach ZIP codes do you cover?
92651, including Top of the World, Bluebird Canyon, Arch Beach Heights and North Laguna. The typical drive from San Clemente is 28 to 42 minutes.
Do I need to be home the whole time?
Only at the start and the end. I need five minutes with you at the beginning to understand what the bike is doing and to confirm the quote, and five minutes at the end to hand it back and show you what changed. In between you can go to work, take a call, or leave entirely.
My display is showing an error code. What does it mean?
It depends on the system, because every maker numbers its own faults: 21 is a speed sensor fault on a Bafang display but abnormal current on a Rad, and Shimano's codes start with W or E. The free error code lookup has the makers' own tables for Bafang, Bosch, Shimano STEPS, Rad Power Bikes, KT and Segway-Ninebot, with the maker's first step for each. If a code points at the battery or charger, stop charging and riding until it's checked.
Is my e-bike battery legal in California?
Almost certainly, if you already own it — California's SB 1271 governs what can be sold or leased, not what you already ride. Since January 1, 2026 it bars selling or leasing an e-bike unless its battery has been tested by an accredited lab to a standard referenced in UL 2849 or EN 15194, and the product must carry the lab's mark and the standard. A replacement battery sold on its own has to meet a battery standard referenced in UL 2849 or EN 15194, a charger sold for a battery must be certified for it, and e-scooters must be tested to UL 2272. I check the certification label on every visit at no charge, and I won't install an unlabeled pack.
